the nash + guruland jam nite

see the nash gig is a bit of a blur
i remember the drink card was enormous and we all got through it eventually.
i remember talking to wayne and listening to his songs on his mp3 player - that was cool
and mettaphor played (from noosa) they were really funky.
but the rest is gone.
and kev's jam night at guruland!
it was huge - the room was packed to the rafters with all shapes and forms of the human species.
the wind was blowing 100km/hr outside and we were having such a blast we didn't even notice...
(til we went outside and tried to drive home. harder)

@ the welsey anne with the jacqueline gawler trio

those jazz girls can play.
their instruments look different - ie, they have proper ones - spesh guitars with no heads and big phat double basses and vocalists with sensitive microphones and they weave you into a tingling zone of what i like to call the "jazz moment". you're not sure what's happening but you know its amazing and you FEEL it man.
i forgot to take my camera out of my bag. but if i had i think i could have even photographed the jazz of it.
instead.
the flyer says it all.

deborah conway support at the rooftop assylum seekers benefit gig

except that it was raining and so we were inside on the rooftop
and except that i didn't actually get to see deborah conway play...
but--
it was still an amazing vibey crazy day
an afternoon of coolest musicians - rob longstaff and tin pan orange to name a few, and butterscotch schnapse so i've forgotten quite a bit of exactly what happened,
although i did meet two cousins of mine in the crowd.
we hadn't seen each other since we were like 13.
cool huh.
and i didn't get to see deb conway which was a bummer cos i had to leave. why are we always having to leave?

QLD mini tour - part three. finally frontier.

and finally back down to brissy for the alley.
i checked the brisways (or whatever their map thing is called) and navigated my way to the address i had scribbled on a scrap of paper and i arrived... at a bowling alley. i was a bit confused. so i grabbed my guitar and stompbox and headed into the bowling alley (!) and things didn't become clearer. there was no stage. just people playing ten pin bowling. so i headed up to the young boy selling the shoes and filled him in on my dilema- i think i'm supposed to play here but its a bowling alley...
not to worry says he. go through this door. and he shoed me through a tiny door into da da da dum: a tiny bar in the middle of the bowling alley!
and what a cool night it was.
The tawdry gang was in situ with a fantastic bunch of musicians, crowned in the wee hours of the morning by the effervenscent, magical tunes of moot (check them out here: http://www.myspace.com/mootlings).
a mad dash for the plane some few hours later when the sun was blazing sent me flying back over the edge of the country to melbourne.
nice one.

QLD mini tour - part two

next stop Brisbane and Ric's Bar in foritute valley to play with the amazing xana:
http://www.myspace.com/xanatunes
had an imprompture guest in the shape of Damo the Harmonica King (although he says he's not the king and that someone else in brisbane is, i disagree. he's definitely the king!). We jammed out a song together and had much fun.
much power to the people i met that night. they lifted me higher.

then back up to noosa to the heads.
i checked into to a weird youth hostel and headed to Sean(doh)'s house for a lush vegetarian dinner with his family and then we went to his radio show "noosa live".
we had such a great time just chattin and playing music. his my space account is here: http://www.myspace.com/blazermadison.
after my part he put on this live set of an american duo called truck stop honeymoon. mad bluegrass deep comedy craziness. absolutely brilliant.

QLD mini tour - 1st installment - Perigian Originals

so here goes.
i'm standing at one of those airport internet stations watching the mins flash past but thought i'd drop my first qld mini tour post.
me n tina headed up the sunshine (and it really is sunshine!) coast to peregian. we camped out in a little yellow n blue room and looked out at the sea.
on sunday we headed to Peregian Beach and joined in the fun at the little beach festival Jay C Rider puts on twice a month.
man it was so fun.
sun, sea, surf, and great music.
there was melania jack (from byron), liz flynn due (Qld), me, and FAQ (qld). everyone was jammin it up and the crowd was totally friendly and we all peaced out to good vibes n fresh air. a definite favourite on the gigs list.
more to come...

keeping warm at the heritage tavern

so we took a trek out to balnarring - battled the peak hour traffic with a crackly radio and an avocado sandwich and headed for the coast. when we finally arrived at the heritage tavern it was raining, dark and freezing cold.
we set up the gear on the outside deck and shivered as the plastic verandah coverings flapped in the wind.
but - the little gas heaters were pumping and within five mins of playing my blood was running hot, socks were off, jumper discarded and everyone was heating up the place fantastically.
the crowd was great - all locals, lots of musicians, everyone really friendly and welcoming. by the end of the night tina was introducing me to basically everyone (she'd made alot of friends while i was playing!) and we were trading back slaps and mandolin tips and playing songs to each other at the back of the pub and singing to keep warm.
inside there was a blazing log fire but some how we never made it in there...
